Building a house could be expensive for even those with a decent monthly income gained from a job or own business. Criteria required to become beneficiaries of the Basava Vasati Yojana of GoK:

• People who are proven permanent residents of Karnataka
• People with no ownership to any pucca house in Karnataka or within India
• People who own land but cannot afford to build a house or people who already own a kutcha house
• People belonging to below poverty line (BPL); or belonging to socially and economically backward classes such as SC, ST, OBC
• People with a maximum annual income of ₹32,000
• All applicants must have the required documents ready to produce – income details, address proof, category certificate, etc.

Just as the GoI has made all government-related benefits accessible online, the GoK allows beneficiaries to easily apply online for Basava Vasati Yojana through the official website. One only needs to fill in the application form with requested details – name, gender, DOB, district name, income certificate, etc., attach the required documents – Aadhar, proof of income, applicant’s photo, etc. and finally submit the form. From the same official website, one can login to using username and password.

Once applied, beneficiary status can be checked right from the official website by simply clicking on ‘Beneficiary Status’ option that is available on the homepage. This option redirects to another page where the district must be selected from a drop-down menu, beneficiary code must be entered and submitted.

From sourcing the raw materials to the cost of raw materials, economically backward classes in particular may find it next to impossible to afford the construction of a house. However, the Basava Vasati Yojana initiative provides proven beneficiaries up to 85% of raw materials that are required for construction of a pucca house, free of cost.
