India is a developing country with population belonging to many social classes. The country is doing its best to help the financially challenged classes in many ways.
The Government of Karnataka (GoK), with the same intent, now has a scheme to get homeless people out of their suffering and provide them hopes of getting shelter; the scheme is Basava Vasati Yojana.
Building a house could be expensive for even those with a decent monthly income gained from a job or own business. Investing in any ready property including land will also require years of planning and saving up as the initial investment amount is generally not easily affordable. Despite being eligible for home loans, savings are still required for down payment. While this process holds good for those with a reliable source of income, Karnataka has many residents who are unable to afford any investment as they do not have the minimum wages or do not have any means of earning at all.
Basava Vasati Yojana is applicable for beneficiaries in both rural and urban areas. Managed by Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited (RGHCL), the initiative aims to provide pucca houses to socially and economically backward classes in Karnataka who are unable to afford even basic houses.
Criteria required to become beneficiaries of the Basava Vasati Yojana of GoK:
Just as the GoI has made all government-related benefits accessible online, the GoK allows beneficiaries to easily apply online for Basava Vasati Yojana through the official website. One only needs to fill in the application form with requested details – name, gender, DOB, district name, income certificate, etc., attach the required documents – Aadhar, proof of income, applicant’s photo, etc. and finally submit the form. From the same official website, one can login to using username and password.
Once applied, beneficiary status can be checked right from the official website by simply clicking on ‘Beneficiary Status’ option that is available on the homepage. This option redirects to another page where the district must be selected from a drop-down menu, beneficiary code must be entered and submitted.
From sourcing the raw materials to the cost of raw materials, economically backward classes in particular may find it next to impossible to afford the construction of a house. However, the Basava Vasati Yojana initiative provides proven beneficiaries up to 85% of raw materials that are required for construction of a pucca house, free of cost.
Along with many other initiatives undertaken by the GoI and GoK, the Basava Vasati Yojana aims at improving the standard of living of socially and economically backward classes. Keeping up with newer and improvised schemes, India as a country may be developing sooner than ever. Various types of properties in India are also always in high demand for investment.
